Personalized Bedtime Audio That Stars Your Child: A Sleep Routine Game-Changer
A custom-voice MP3 of your child's personalized storybook, included free with every Akoni order. ~3-5 minutes, plays from any device, perfect for the nights you're too tired to read aloud.
It’s 8:14pm. Your kid is in bed. They want a story. You’ve been on your feet since 6am. Your throat is dry. The book they want you to read is the one you’ve already read 47 times this month. You love them. You also have nothing left.
This is the situation Akoni Books’ bedtime audio MP3 was built for.
What it is
Every Akoni storybook order includes a custom-voice MP3 of the full story — a 3 to 5 minute audio recording that plays the entire book aloud. Generated using ElevenLabs’ Rachel voice (warm, calm, paced for kids). It comes as a sibling download to the book PDF, included free as part of the Hero Pack bundle.
You play it from your phone, a tablet, a smart speaker, or wherever. The kid lays in bed, listens to the story they’ve come to know, and falls asleep. You sit in the chair next to the bed, or you don’t.
This isn’t a generic story-reading audiobook. The story being read is the personalized storybook your kid is the hero of. Their name, their character, their adventure — read aloud in a calm, professional voice.
Why it works for kids who already love the book
Kids 3–7 have a particular relationship with stories: they love repetition. The same book, read the same way, every night. It’s not boring to them — it’s the whole point. The repetition is what makes the story feel safe.
The bedtime audio gives parents a way to honor that without burning out:
- The kid hears the same story they love, told the same way
- The voice is consistent — every night, same pacing, same warmth
- The kid stops asking “can we read the book one more time?” because the audio version is right there
For families where the kid is in the “read it again” phase, the audio MP3 is genuinely the difference between bedtime as a thing parents dread and bedtime as a thing parents look forward to.
Practical setups parents have shared
Three patterns we’ve seen work:
Setup 1: Phone on the nightstand, lights low
Kid in bed, lights dim. Parent sits or lies next to them. Phone plays the audio at low volume. Parent doesn’t have to read — but is still there. Most parents do this on tired nights.
Setup 2: Smart speaker as the babysitter
Push the MP3 to a Google Home or Echo using your phone’s “play on” function. Kid asks the speaker to play their book. Parent is in the next room finishing dishes. Hands-off.
This works best for slightly older kids (5+) who can handle a story without a parent in the room.
Setup 3: Audio + the kid follows along in the printed book
Some kids want the audio AND want to flip pages of their printed Akoni book at the same time. This is reading practice in disguise — the audio teaches them what their eyes should be doing on each page. Massively helpful for early readers.
Why we use a custom voice
We tested several options before landing on ElevenLabs’ Rachel:
- Generic computer-generated voices (the default option for most TTS): flat, robotic, the kid notices and tunes out within a minute.
- Celebrity-style voices: distracting; the parent’s brain goes “wait, who is that?”
- Parent-recorded voice: would be ideal, but most parents won’t actually record themselves reading 16 pages of a book on the night they buy a personalized storybook for their kid. We tried.
- ElevenLabs Rachel: warm, calm, slightly British-but-not-distracting, professional, clearly engineered for “audiobook” rather than “voice assistant.” Wins on every blind test we ran with parents.
So that’s the voice. If you’re a customer who has strong feelings about wanting a different voice — drop us a note, this is a knob we could turn.
How long is the audio?
Akoni storybooks are 16 pages, ~150–250 words per page. The full audio runs 3 to 5 minutes depending on how dense your particular story is.
3–5 minutes is the right length for bedtime audio specifically. Long enough that the kid settles in. Short enough that it doesn’t end with the kid bored or wide-awake. Most kids who use it fall asleep mid-story; the audio finishes and you can quietly stop the playback or let it go silent.

File format and how to use it
The audio comes as a standard MP3 file. It works on:
- iOS / Apple Music / Files app
- Android / Google Play Music / Files
- Sonos, Echo, Google Home (via your phone)
- Any laptop / tablet
- Old-school MP3 players if you still have one for car trips
Download it once, copy it to wherever you want it. We don’t gate it behind an app.
A note on what the audio does NOT replace
Reading aloud to your kid is one of the most studied predictors of literacy outcomes. Hearing a parent’s voice read a story matters in ways that no recorded audio can match — eye contact, pointing at words, asking “what do you think happens next?”, the back-and-forth of shared attention.
The bedtime audio MP3 isn’t trying to replace that. It’s trying to make it possible to not do it on the nights you genuinely cannot, without skipping the story.
Some nights you have the energy and you read aloud. Other nights you press play. Both nights, the kid hears their story, falls asleep with the same character they love.
That’s the entire pitch.
How to get yours
The bedtime audio MP3 auto-generates after every Akoni Books order — no extra step. It downloads alongside the Hero Pack PDF.
If you don’t have an Akoni book yet:

Upload one photo, pick an art style + story theme, and the personalized illustrated book + Hero Pack (with the audio) finishes generating in about 5 minutes.
The first night you press play, your kid hears their own name spoken aloud as the hero of their own story. It’s a moment.
